Sometimes it feels that our lunch options at our McLaren Vale wineries are a hard choice between either fine dining or pizza & platters. That is obviously a little bit exaggerated but not by much …
Enter the latest dining addition at the d’Arenberg Cube: The Singapore Circus Café, which perfectly fills that void.
Casual and colourful (as you would expect with anything that you find in the Cube), the Singapore Circus Café is located on the 3rdfloor of the Cube and offers daily snacks and lunches in a relaxed café style atmosphere.
As the name suggests, the food on offer is all about South-East Asia – not bound by the ‘limits’ of one country, you will find a small selection of different and seasonally changing regional South-East Asian dishes(about 4-6 mains) such as Beef Rendang, Buddha Bowls, Glass Noodle Salad, Goa Bao and the already locally famous Duck pancakes.
I have to admit that we were initially a bit sceptical with a British chef being in charge of an all-Asian kitchen – but thankfully we were proven wrong: everything we have tried was indeed a beautiful expression of Asian cuisine – light, full of flavour and could be perfectly paired with some of the d’Arenberg white and rose wines.
During our last visit on an extremely hot summer’s day, the glass noodle salad with shredded poached chicken and a glass of ‘Stephanie, the gnome with rose coloured glasses’ rose (yes, the d’Arenberg wine names and labels are as colourful as everything else here) was indeed the perfect reprieve and will us make come back again.
You can’t just arrive a walk-in, but we would highly recommend to book in advance – increasing your chances to get a table with a view … after all, you are on level 3 in the Cube, on a hilltop and will be able to see across the undulating vineyards all the way to the sea.
If you are looking for a more substantial Asian dining option at the Cube, there is the Singapore Circus Kitchen Gallery for you on level 1. Places inside the kitchen, you can watch as your food is prepared and indulge in a 10-dish banquet.
Having booked into either of the two venues, the Singapore Circus Café and the Kitchen Gallery, your entry into the cube with wine tasting and access to the Salvador Dali exhibition is included.

At Karawatha Cottages you can choose from three luxurious cottages - each individually furnished and fully equipped - ideal for a short-break or weekend getaway in McLaren Vale - or for a longer stay to explore all the food & wine, our beaches and the Fleurieu Peninsula
