We are truly spoilt for choice in McLaren Vale when it comes to stunning fine dining options - but sometimes all you need is something more casual, but still offering delicious food.

Harry's Deli at Wirra Wirra Wines fills that void perfectly. Integrated into the historic winery and cellar door is this little gem, offering a wide range of café style lunch options - think toasted paniniand flat breads, bowls and salads. Many dishes have a bit of an Asian inspired influence - but whatever we have tried so far, we haven't been disappointed.

And then, in the addition to the above, is their signature dish: Son of Trott pie

Now, I am usually not a friend of pies - and it took quite a few visits before I thought I have to give it a try ... but now I know already what I will have next time. The lamb (cooked in shiraz for hours) simply melts in your mouth - comfort food as good as it gets.

All the Wirra Wirra wines are available by the glass or bottle, with a bespoke wine recommendation for each item on the seasonal menu. Or, simply have one of the Wirra Wirra tasting experiences before lunch to discover their range (as said - there is a lot more to Wirra Wirra than the Church Block Blend, as good as that is) and choose your favourite drop.

For after lunch, there is Dawn Patrol coffee available, with some lovely treats for those with a sweet tooth.

Make sure to stroll through their produce and native garden, look out for some of the 'follies' like their 'medieval catapult' (used for hurling water melons) or the 'Woodhenge' boundary fence from massive threaded redgum trunks. On a more serious side, Wirra Wirra features one of the McLaren Vale geology pits, giving you an insight into some of the "terroir" of the McLaren Vale region.

In short – a visit to Wirra Wirra wines is always worth it, whether for just tasting their wines or to indulge in whatever Harry’s Deli has on offer.
