Coriole is another favourite of ours and we are always happy to recommend to our guests at Karawatha Cottages -- even if just for some of the best views in McLaren Vale - but who would do that and miss out on the great wines and food on offer?

Their onsite restaurant, previously known as Gather at Coriole, gives yet another excuse to visit.

Start off by calling into the cellar door to taste their wines; make sure to not just try the McLaren Vale staples of Shiraz and Grenache but also go on an educational journey and taste the alternative varieties from Piquepoul to Nero (and many more in between). Staff are super friendly and keen to share their knowledge.

Once you have picked your favourite, go next door to a friendly welcome at the Coriole Restaurant. Nice and warm atmosphere, with the combustion heater roaring on the cold winter's day we visited last. We were lucky enough to get a front row table, being able to enjoy those amazing views whilst waiting for our food and sipping on the wines.

The food is strictly focused on what's in season at the moment and what is available locally. Think pine mushroom, warragal greencs, etc - with Spencer Gulf squid, beef cheeks -- everything we tried was delicious.

Some of the more unusual or "experimental" ingredients from the days of "Gather at Coriole" may be  gone - but it is the package of amazing views, great wines and good food that keeps us returning to Coriole.

And then there are the cheeses ... yet another reason to visit; Coriole Vinyards also features a "Farm Shop", with Kris Lloyd Woodside cheese, Coriole Olives and more on sale. You can purchase those, together with a glass or bottle of Coriole wines and enjoy them as picnic on the lawns, in the estate gardens to the Arbour Bar (open weekends only - no booking required).
