_____

On top of a hill along Seaview Road you would be forgiven to call into Beach Road Wines just for the views over the undulating vineyards, towards the d'Arenberg Cube and beyond to the Mount Lofty Ranges ... but why would you do that when there are beautiful wines to taste and pizzas (and more) to indulge in.

As it is typical for McLaren Vale, the Beach Road Wines Cellar Door and Restaurant is a small family owned and operated business and given the long list Italian grape varietals one might think that it is one of the Italian McLaren Vale families at work. But not here, Beach Road Wines has been started and is run by Brioni and Tony Hoare and it was Brioni's years of working in Italy where she fell in love with the Italian varieties and down to earth way of living.

With a Fiano and Greco there are even two white Italian wines available, showcasing that we indeed can grow and make white wines in McLaren Vale. The Greco is one of our favourites and with the small vineyard right in front of their dining deck (you can see the vines in the image here), it doesn't get any better than this for the paddock to plate (or vineyard to glass) concept.

Pizzas are to die for - truly Italian, from a red-gum wood-fired oven with your usual toppings but also some more unusual (and no, not Hawaiian style) like Mushroom & Fennel or a beautiful Pear & Gorgonzola.

Perfect also for kids, who can roam around the cellar door and a special pizza and gelati menu for the little ones. And if you are not into pizza at all, there is a choice of Italian starters or a shared platter with meats, cheeses, olives, etc. available. Finish off with a desert or some gelati and you are likely ready to return back to your cottage deck for a relaxing afternoon.

And just to complete the list of wines, as it is not just whites that are available for tasting (and purchase) but also Italian red varieties like Nero d'Avola and Anglianico, next to the typical McLaren Vale Shiraz and Cab Sav.
