Angove Wines Cellar Door and Vineyard Kitchen

The Angove Family Winemakers' cellar door is well known for its range of organic wines and its impressive heritage as one of South Australia's oldest family-owned wine companies dating back to 1886. 

But that their McLaren Vale cellar door is also home to the Angove Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant is often overlooked.

The setting alone is worth the visit: Part of the building is made with traditional old Adelaide bluestone, that seamlessly flows to the newer part that includes floor to ceiling windows ensuring abundant natural light and panoramic vineyard views (you are overlooking the organic and biodynamic Warboys Vineyard).

The wine experience is exceptional, showcasing not just their renowned McLaren Vale wines but also their rare spirits from the St Agnes Distillery. The tastings are expertly guided, with staff who genuinely know their wines and can tell you the stories behind each bottle - from their trophy-winning single vineyard releases to their accessible everyday drops.

Throughout the week you can enhance your tasting experience by enjoying one of their grazing platters, but from Thursdays to Sundays you should plan to incorporate the time for a proper lunch. The choice of main course may be limited (3-4) but everything we have tasted so far has been a delight – from a beautifully done duck breast on a cold winter’s day to wild Coorong Mullet. 

And there are plenty of delicious sharing plates to choose from: Kingfish Crudo, roasted eggplant, duck water chestnut dumplings and more. If you have difficulties deciding, simply go for the 5 course Feed Me menu, offering exceptional value for money.

On Thursdays and Fridays, you can also choose their Prix Fixe Lunch: 3 courses, including a glass of wine – you can’t beat that.

It is unfussy food done really well - exactly what you want when the wines are the star.
