Wirra Wirra Wines
The Wirra Wirra Experience
Wirra Wirra Wines, the home of the famous Church Block, has been awarded the 2018 Australian Gourmet Traveller best large large cellar door in McLaren Vale.
And we think rightly so - it's been beautifully re-furbished, maintaining the character of the old ironstone building (the winery was rebuilt in 1969, from only two partially standing walls left from the original building) and now also features a provedore style cafe with Harry's Deli.
For those of you who, like us, don't always enjoy the "large" cellar door experience with a long counter, there is great alternative: book the Trott's Tales tour for an intimate behind the scenes tour, finishing with a private tasting in the original (small) cellar door.
See below what the Wirra Wirra Wines is all about or check out our cottages for luxurious, yet affordable accommodation close to their cellar door.

& Harry's Deli
Who says that to produce seriously good wines, you can't have fun?
Well the folks (or the tribe as they call themselves) at Wirra Wirra certainly are proof that this is possibly. A giant fence made of massive redgum trunks called 'Woodhenge', a giant medieval siege machine to catapult water melons or a man in bowler hat and suit, in a red rowboat in the vineyards ... need we say more?
But the main reason to call into the cellar door is without doubt the wines. The Church Block (Cab Sav/Shiraz/Merlot) maybe the most widely known wine from Wirra Wirra, but you shouldn't leave without tasting the Catapult or Woodhenge Shiraz (both rated 93 pts) or our favourite the The Absconder McLaren Vale Grenache (96 pts), to name just a few.
The best way to experience is to take one of the tours on offer - whether it is the Trott's Tales tour or one of the 'master classes' (Classic McLaren Vale or Flagships) with matching food.
The regional tasting plates for the master classes are from Harry's Deli, the cafe integrated into the cellar door; a great spot for a casual lunches with regional platters, salads, paninis or a bowl of soup on those cold days. All available with wines from the range ... or a seriously good cup of coffee.
