Level 6 restrictions introduced for travellers from Victoria
Unfortunately, restrictions are back in place for our visitors from Victoria and as of 7:45 pm 28 May 2021, travellers arriving from Victoria are not permitted to enter South Australia (exceptions apply for essential travellers and returning South Australians - see SA government site for details).
Other than for Victoria, South Australia currently has no entry restrictions for residents from any other Australian states or territories as well as from no restrictions for residents of New Zealand.
All you need to do prior entering SA is to complete a simple registration of intent to travel and download the mySA GOV app from Google Play or the App Store prior. The mySa GOV app is required to use the COVID Safe Check-In to scan a QR code specific to the Adelaide Airport immediately after their arrival.
And in the unfortunate event of this changing again - we have got you covered with our Covid Peace of Mind policy, so you can book again with confidence.
There are also no border restrictions for travellers from SA to any state or territory (for your return travel) and you can travel to and from SA to your home state without restrictions (registration for intent to travel may be required also for our home state - please verify with your respective state authorities).
Covid restrictions in South Australia are back to what we can now describe as the "new normal" - meaning there are no travel restrictions within the state and only density limits and restrictions for larger events apply. For details, please check the SA government Covid-19 website.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back again and with almost a year now of practice of operating under our COVID-Safe-Plan, we ensure that your health and safety is not compromised during your stay with us. And the same is true for our friends and partners at local restaurants and cellar doors - cleaning regimes and social distancing are by now part of all our standard operating procedures!
Here is what Rosemary & Jeff thought about their most recent stay (July 2020):
"When things 'opened up', we thought of Unwind and we're so glad we did. We'd stayed at the cottage in 2017 and remembered the lovely views, the cosy wood fire and the well appointed rooms. It is also scrupulously cleaned.
It was a relaxing get-away, filled with more happy memories. Much needed this year!!!"
Restaurants, cafes and cellar doors are all allowed to welcome guests again, but keep in mind that capacity restrictions do apply. Make sure to call and book in advance, whether it is for cellar door tastings (with most offering seated tastings only) or for dining out - in particular weekends are always filling up fast.
You can find all restaurants with their opening hours, plus those offering take-away menus on our Restaurant page; our suggestions for tasting experiences, walks, beaches and day-trips on the Fleurieu Peninsula are listed on our Explore page.
For your extra peace of mind and to ensure your and our safety and well-being, we have also implemented the following additional measures:
As part of us completing the SA government “Covid-Safe-Aware” training and the implementation of our "Covid-Safe-Plan", we have reviewed our cleaning protocol accordingly and are pleased to confirm that even our ‘normal’ clean is already exceeding official recommendations. In addition we have now added hand sanitiser to public areas, plus disinfectant spray for your use in the cottages.
For the time being, we are also limiting/blocking same day check-outs & check-ins to increase time between use of cottages (and further reduce the risks), but can therefore unfortunately no longer accept early check-in or late check-out requests.
Whilst we loved our personal welcomes and the opportunity to share more about McLaren Vale with you, we have reduced this for now to a minimum (or you can also choose to self-check-in) and are moving our recommendations to the Explore section of our website.
With travel restrictions being removed again, we have returned to our normal cancellation provisions; but you have our commitment that we will apply our ‘peace of mind’ T&Cs should government travel restrictions be imposed again at a later stage:
Peace of Mind provision for cancellations due COVID-19 travel restrictions: Should you be unable to travel due to a change in border closures (or re-introduction of intra-state travel restrictions) within the 30 day cancellation window (e.g. you reside in Queensland and the SA borders are open for you to travel at time of booking, but are subsequently closed again within 30 days of your check-in date), the following 'peace of mind' provisions apply for all bookings that are made directly on our website and that show a residential address/suburb that is covered in the government directions:
Fully refundable until 15 days prior check-in; free change of dates or travel credit for cancellations made within 14 days
Please note this relates to government imposed border closures/travel restrictions only and does not cover sickness or any other cancel reason. Cancellations need to be made within 24 hrs of the changed travel restrictions being announced. We recommend to always purchase travel insurance.
So come and treat yourself to a stay at Karawatha Cottages for a well-deserved change of scenery and some fresh air; enjoy our beautiful surrounds, go on a walk along our beaches, explore the Onkaparinga Gorge (the river is flowing!) – or follow our wine walk or our other walking recommendations, starting right at your cottage.
If you have stayed with us before, check-out what we have done over the past few months whilst we had plenty of time up our sleeves: From planting just close to 50 new native bushes and trees throughout our gardens and the forest, to finally getting to work on our long-time planned veggie patch, to completing a bit of “isolation renovation” in the cottages. Kitchen bench-tops and our recycled hardwood vanity tops have been sanded and re-sealed, cottage decks are oiled, the combustion heaters (and flues) cleaned and ready for winter, and an array of other little odd jobs completed.
If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at anytime
Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
We are looking forward to welcoming you soon to Karawatha Cottages.
